Rosalie Vassar Scott, 90, of Beeks Lane, Spout Spring, died early Friday morning January 3, 2014 at her residence. She was the widow of Samuel S. Scott, Jr.
Rosalie was born in Campbell County September 22, 1923 a daughter of the late Kathleen Oakes and Fred Starkey Vassar. She was a member of Reedy Spring Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her children, Samuel S. (Sammie) Scott III and wife, Jill of Spout Spring; Marie S. Mayes and husband, Russell of Spout Spring; Debbie S. Floyd of Lynchburg; Amy S. Coleman and husband, Sam of Spout Spring; Kathy S. Gilbert and husband, Ken of Appomattox; Connie S. Clark and husband, Roger of Spout Spring; Joanne S. Lewis and husband, Vic of Lynchburg; Randy Scott of Chesapeake; her "city daughters", Kathy S. Smith and husband, Mark of Forest and Sharon S. Killian and husband, Bruce of Spotsylvania; a brother, George Vassar and wife, Margaret of Gladys; two sisters, Elise V. Wood and husband, Ray of Long Island and Jean V. Wooldridge of Hickory, NC; seventeen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Coleman Allen of Axton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Goin, brother, Fred Vassar, and sister, Louise Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday January 5, 2014 at Reedy Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Tony Brooks and the Rev. John Muth.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday January 4,2013 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm and other times at her residence.
