Obituary

Ronald Lee Horton, 71, of Richmond Highway, Pamplin, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was the husband of Patricia Darlene Brewster Horton.

Born in Wytheville, April 8, 1948, he was a son of the late Margaret Ward and George Horton. He began his music teaching career at Tazewell County High School. Ronald continued teaching for a total of 25 years, in Virginia at Clifton Forge High School, Altavista High School, and Fieldale-Collinsville High School, Hargrave Military Academy, Fork Union Military Academy, and finally in North Carolina at Garinger High School of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County. He completed a Master of Arts in Performance at Radford University 1976 and Doctor of Music in Sacred Instrumental Music and Columbia Pacific University 1983. Ronald retired from teaching in 1995 and opened Music Associates, a retail repair school music service before retiring again in 2012.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Edward Horton and wife, Carrie of Kegley, WV, Tim Horton and wife, Phaedra of White Lake Michigan, and Patrick Horton and wife, Janet of Appomattox; brother-in-law, David Brewster of Kegley, WV; nephews, Ashley Brewster and wife, Emily Brewster, Taylor Brewster and Wyatt Brewster all of Kegley, WV; sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Princeton, WV; nieces, Laura Brown of Princeton, WV, Lisa Harmon of Beckley, WV, Misty Crouse of Blacksburg; six grandchildren, Steven Cannon, Dalton Mock, Sierra, Nickie, Summer Reynolds, and Tuesday Horton who lovingly called him "grumpy"; and fury friends, Otis, Romeo, and Brooke.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Liberty Cemetery with Rev. Gene Beverly officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Robinson Funeral Home.
