Roger Lee Scruggs, Jr., 52, of Appomattox passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of April Lynn Hudson Scruggs.
Born in Farmville, on January 13, 1971, he was the son of Roger Scruggs, Sr., and Marjorie Taylor Scruggs. Lee was a Sales Associate for Appomattox Outdoor Equipment. Lee made a positive impact on the Appomattox community by serving as the president of Appomattox Youth Sports, was a Dixie Youth baseball Umpire, and was Commissioner of Appomattox Youth Sports Baseball and Basketball. Lee was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees, and the biggest fan of the Appomattox Raiders. He was a lifelong UVA Cavalier fan and became the greatest and proudest fan and uncle when his niece Courtney began playing softball there. Lee worked with a special group of umpires, "The Blue Crew", that he called many youth baseball games with. Lee made many an event in Appomattox special by providing music as "DJ Doc Lee". He was a very proud father, Peepaw, and uncle. His kids and granddaughter meant everything to him.
In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by four children, Corey Scruggs, Caylie Scruggs, Casey Scruggs, Conner Scruggs, all of Appomattox; his granddaughter Mila Smith, who he lovingly called "Peepaw's Girl "; his sister, Jenny Scruggs Layne and husband, Bryan of Concord; and his niece, Courtney Layne; and his lifelong friend who he considered his brother, Andre Royal.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery, Prospect, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Saturday August 5 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
