Roger Bain (R.B.) Moore, 74, of Lynchburg and formerly of Appomattox passed from this life to that eternal life beyond the blue on Monday, January 29, 2018. R. B. as he was known; loved his God, his country, and his family.
Born in Lynchburg on February 7, 1943, he grew up in Appomattox County, the youngest of 10 children of his deceased parents, Maggie Litchford Moore and Charlie C. Moore.
R.B. left the family farm in April 1963 to begin a long and enjoyable career with the then Virginia Highway Department in Appomattox as timekeeper. A year later, he was promoted to Highway Traffic Technician in Lynchburg District and there begun a challenging career in Traffic Engineering. R. B. enjoyed working with people particularly if he could help them or touch their life in a positive manner. After 47 years of dedicated service, he retired on May 1, 2010 from the Virginia Department of Transportation as Traffic Engineer for the Lynchburg District.R.B. joined Woodmen of the World in May 1961 and later served as President of Chapter 71 Appomattox where he was instrumental in the construction of the first Little League Ball Field in Appomattox County. He touched many lives across this state and nation as he served as President of James River Woodmen Association, President of the Virginia Jurisdiction, represented Virginia at numerous National Conventions, Lt. Colonel of Woodmen's Uniform Degree Team, and President of the Virginia Fraternal Allowance. In addition, he served a 4-year term on the National Legislative Committee and two 4-year terms on the National Judiciary Committee before being elected as National Director to the 14-member Board of Directors where he provided oversight and vison of Woodmen's operation and fraternal programs. At the time of his passing, he was a Director and Secretary of the Virginia Woodmen Fraternal Corporation.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Dollene Wooldridge and June Freeman and three brothers, Leslie, Joseph, and Warren Moore.
Surviving R. B. are his sisters, Ivan Harless of Lynchburg, and Barbara Downey of Christiansburg; brothers, Thomas (Bo) Moore of Madison Heights and Floyd Moore and wife, Mary Jane of Amherst; and two sisters-in-law, Paula Moore of Appomattox and Julia Moore of Madison Heights. He is also survived by his caregiver and beloved nephew, Tommy Harless of Lynchburg; a special niece, LaFaye Martin of Appomattox; a special nephew, Terry Downey of Christiansburg; and many other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at Robinson Funeral Home with Terry Wayne Carroll and Rev. Larry Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Robinson Funeral Home.
