Appomattox: Robert Lee McCormick, 84, of Rt. 4, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Appomattox County, September 4, 1920, he was a son of the late Annie Stephens McCormick and T. McCormick. Robert took great pride in being a World War II Veteran of the US Navy. After the war he worked with RF & P Railroad until an accident left him with one hand. However, he never allowed himself to be "disabled". He opened several small businesses and built his own home. He loved his dog Pepper, buying, selling and repairing automobiles, gardening and nurturing wildlife. Robert was proud to be a member and former deacon of Red Oak Baptist Church in Oakville. He was grateful to live among good neighbors, friends, and church family that surrounded and supported him, most especially throughout the last years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Clara McCormick; three daughters, Wanda McCormick and her husband, Gideon Brand of New York, Deborah Maxey and her husband, Gerald, and Marjorie Ion all of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Robert Bryant, Gerald "Al" Maxey, III, Heather Giles, Allen Martin and Christopher Ion; seven great grandchildren, a good friend and nephew, Scotty Scott and two nieces Delores Wills and Ruth Murphy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Scott McCormick.
