Obituary

Robert Lee Bryant, 96, of Wildway Rd., Appomattox, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his residence. He and his wife, Dale Glenn Bryant, shared their lives together for 38 years.


Born in Appomattox, VA, on July 4, 1917, he was a son of the late Maggie Ferguson and Dallas Clifton Bryant. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #104, the Monroe Masonic Lodge #301, and the Scottish Rites 32°. Bob served his country during WW II in the US Army as a Corporal. He retired from the N & W Railroad and the Lynchburg Foundry. Gardening was his passion. He was a "tell-it-like-he-saw-it" man which caused many to laugh. He loved being "Papa" and being entertained by his grandchildren, as well as, sitting and chatting with family and friends about his golden years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five step-children, Carol Burnett, Frances Goin and husband Kenneth, Joseph Hamlett and wife Ursula, Teresa Doss and husband Gene all of Appomattox, and Rebecca Silby and husband Wes of Lynchburg; 11 step-grandchildren, Justin Bryant and wife, Renee, Jonathan Bryant and friend, Amy, Brooke Silby, Cullen Silby, Colton Silby, Max Doss, Dustin Doss, Wesley Goin, Michael Goin and wife Diane, Tara Sprouse and husband Donnie, and Corey Silby; five step-great-grandchildren, Tucker Bryant, Channing Bryant, Hunter Silby, Berkley Goin, and Dalton Goin; a brother, Lloyd Bryant and his wife Becky of Appomattox; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Mabel Blaylock Bryant and Dorothy Goodman Bryant; a step-son, Bobby Burnett; three brothers, Willie, Charlie, and Alfred Bryant; three sisters, Hattie Ferguson, Gladys Ferguson, and Thelma Franklin; his mother-in-law, Mae R. Seay; three nephews; and one great-nephew.

A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014, in New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. # 9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
