Robert Keith Hubler, 82, of Exton, Pa., died peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, in Bangor, Maine, where he had been staying with his youngest daughter, Jennifer, and her family.
Keith was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on March 4, 1935, the first child of the late Reta Allinson and the late Herbert Clark Hubler. He graduated in 1953 from Brookline High School in Brookline, Mass., where he played on the basketball team. He attended the University of Washington in Seattle. His roommate introduced him to Helen Nadine Hatfield of Goldendale. They married in 1954. Soon after, they moved back to Boston, Mass., where their three oldest children were born. In 1958, Keith graduated from Northeastern University with a master's degree in education. In 1962, the family moved to Utica, N.Y., where the two youngest children were born. In 1969, they moved to Exton, Pa., which remained their home.
Keith spent his life in elementary education, beginning as a teacher in Mass., and ending as the principal of Devon Elementary School. Like his wife, he loved to read, work in the garden, travel here and abroad, and keep abreast of the lives of his grandchildren, and this year, of his first great-grandchild. A baseball fan since childhood, he remained loyal to his beloved Red Sox.
He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Kathryn Susan Hubler and her husband, Kenneth Rosenbaum, Alison Elaine H. Alexander and her husband, Ames, and Jennifer Louise Hubler and her husband, Lawrence Diehl; two sons and their wives, James Noel Hubler and his wife, Meredyth, and Geoffrey Clark Hubler and his wife, Margaret of Appomattox; 13 grandchildren, Hannah Lin Donahue and her husband, Ryan, Samuel Lim Hubler, Nathaniel Thomas Hubler, Clarissa Ellen Mauer and her husband, Korey, Henry Edmund Hubler, Jane Kathryn Hubler, Cole Hubler Alexander, Liam Hatfield Alexander, Sunny Nadine Hubler, Zachary Colin Diehl, Wilhem Halden Diehl, Amos Satchel Diehl, Hetty-May Eun Hubler; great-granddaughter, Adeline Lee Donahue; two sisters, Bonnie Brunkhorst and Rowena Douglas; and one brother, Craig Hubler.
