Obituary
Robert McLean Honeycutt, 92, of Red House Rd., Appomattox, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Blackwelder Honeycutt.
Born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, on August 12, 1919, he was a son of the late Charlie Burette and Louise Barker Honeycutt. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. In 1962, he formed and played with The Piedmont Playboys, playing every Saturday night in Appomattox at the Avalon Club until 1984. They also played at the Railroad Festival, country music shows and numerous community events. He was a maintenance foreman for Transco for 33 years and in 1981 he retired to be a farmer.
He is survived by three daughters, Faye Stratton and husband, Thelbert of Appomattox, Kay Jordan of Richmond, and Gay Cole and her husband, Johnny of Appomattox; a brother, Alonzo Honeycutt of China Grove, NC; eight grandchildren, Robin Wooten and husband Greg, Bob Stratton and wife Stacey, Rebekah Midkiff and husband Jake, Kristy Lloyd and husband Matthew, Mary Beth Jordan and fiancé, Brandon Briggs, Melany Jordan, Emily Harris and husband, Michael, Katy Cole and fiancé, Chad Moore; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Steven LeGrand Stratton and Jennifer Lynne Jordan; three sisters; and four brothers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to his caregivers, Carolyn and Donna and to Seven Hills Hospice for their care and concern.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Robinson Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Cheatham. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
