Robert Scott Hollinger, 70, of Appomattox, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at his residence. Born on November 21, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine he was a son of the late Rev. Harold Hollinger and Lela Nelson Hollinger.
Bob was a 1959 graduate of Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, VA. He served in the United States Navy for eight years, first on the USS Howard W. Gilmore and then on the USS Proteus. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 as part of the Mobile Construction Battalion (SeaBees) supporting the the 3rd Amphibious Marines. Following his military service he worked for the next 30 years in the nuclear power industry as a senior project coordinator for the recovery of Three Mile Island in Middletown, PA and at Oyster Creek Nuclear Power plant in Forked River, NJ. He was a volunteer EMT in NJ. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Appomattox where he was involved in various animal rescue groups.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine F. Wieand Hollinger; four children, Cathy Schaeffer and husband, Ted of Clemmons, NC, Connie Wojciechowski and husband, Jim of Mohnton, PA, Scott Hollinger of Robesonia, PA, and Cindy Normann of Wernersville, PA; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Jim Hollinger of Robesonia, PA.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Friday, from 7-8:30 p.m. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
