Robert Lewis (Puddin) Childress, 74, of Walton Dr., Appomattox, VA died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Anne Stanley Childress.

Born in Buckingham County, VA, on July 9, 1939, he was a son of the late Hallie Bell Bryant and Robert Clarence Childress. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and served 29 years with the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department. From 1974 until 1990 he operated Childress-Mitchell Electrical and Plumbing and from 1990 until 2004 he operated Childress Electrical and Plumbing.

He is survived by a brother-in-law, Samuel Stanley and three sisters-in-law, Virginia S. Martin, Laura T. Stanley and Mary Lou Ranson all of Appomattox.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014, in New Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Ron Moore and Pastor Jeff Worley with burial following in the church cemetery.
