Obituary

Robert (Bob) Twyman Burks, 86, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Bob was born in Appomattox County on the family farm, January 2, 1921. He was a son of the late Robert Lee and mother, Lizzie Shepherd-Burks, whom he dearly loved. Bob was a veteran of the US Army serving his country during WWII and for 30 years worked as the crane operator for US
Steel Corporation where he was legend for his strength, steady dependability and love for the Lord. He claimed he never retired from his real job, that of being an ambassador for Christ.
He is survived by his only daughter and son-in-law, Debra L. and David Cargo of Northridge, CA; two sisters, Dorothy Bingham and Florence DeFord both of Lynchburg; a brother, Baynard (Red) of Texas and two step-children, Sean and Allison Cargo.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Strode, Jack, Charles (Little Boogie), and Tom Burks; three sisters, Alice (Sister) Sarver, Amorette ("Tootsie") Johnson and Texie Pillow and his dearest friend and brother at heart, Richard Ryan.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox with burial in the Burks Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
