Richard Clark Lewis Sr, 88, of Liberty Chapel Road, Appomattox, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving and devoted husband of Lucille Coleman Lewis for 64 years.
Clark was born in Appomattox County, July 17, 1927, a son of the late Ruby D. Caldwell and Charlie Davis Lewis. He was an active member of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church serving as trustee, chair member, and president of Friend seekers Bible Class for a number of years. Clark operated a dairy farm with his dad, later with his son Rick. He was active in several farm organizations including a number of years as director in Appomattox County Farm Bureau. Clark served his country in the Quarter Masters Corp. for the United States Army during 1955-1956. In his retirement years, Clark enjoyed horse carriage rides for brides and grooms, and also his Belgium Horses for parades and state fair competitions. Clark loved to joke with both young and old and he never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard "Rick" Clark Lewis, Jr and wife, Inez of Appomattox; a sister, Virginia L. Stratton and husband, Harold of Appomattox; two grandchildren, Robert "Robby" Clark Lewis, and Charles Joshua "Josh" Lewis and Samantha; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Alexander (Xander), Isabella (Bella) all of whom he dearly loved; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Sandra Lewis.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Mann and Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
