Richard Alan Jennings, Sr., 70, of Webster Drive, Concord, died Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his residence.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., on May 1, 1945, he was a son of the late Helen Jones and Woodrow W. Jennings. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, served in the US Army and the Virginia Army National Guard. Richard retired after 25 years with the Lynchburg City Fire Department as a Battalion Chief.
He is survived by a son, Richard A. Jennings, Jr. of Concord; a daughter, Tara Jennings of Lynchburg; a granddaughter, Morgan Campbell, a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Alkire; a step-brother, Bernard Monroe of Midlothian; and a friend and caregiver, Barbara Sowell.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2015, in Calvary Baptist Church, 9388 Village Hwy., Concord, by Elder William A. Anderson and the Rev. Chad Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
