Reginald Edwin Pillow, 89, of Pillow Road, (Old Well) Phenix, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Brookneal. He and his wife, Alice Tuck (Daisy) Pillow shared their lives together for over 65 years.


Born in Charlotte County on April 24, 1925, he was a son of the late Floyd Edwin and Elizabeth Smith Pillow. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was a retired logger, farmer and merchant, operating the Old Well Grocery for over 50 years. He was a former member of the Old Well Hunt Club, Hatcreek Golf Course and coached Dixie Youth Baseball League.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Gloria P. McNeely and fiancé, Samuel E. Carter, Lynchburg, Rodney T. Pillow and wife, Kimberly, and Jack E. Pillow and friend, Barbara Lindsay, all of Phenix; daughter-in-law, Gwen H. Pillow, Phenix; two sisters, Velma P. Jackson, Lynchburg and Emily P. Thomas, Altavista; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Pillow and wife Allison, Jennifer Richardson husband Davey, Angela Churchill and husband Matthew, Jonathan McNeely, Dustin Pillow and wife Kendall, Corbin Pillow, April Hamlett and Cody Allen; five great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Henry Pillow, Corinne, David and Xander Hamlett.

He was preceded in death by a son, Reginald Wayne Pillow.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, July 7, 2014 at Midway Baptist Church by the Dr. Joey Anthony and Ronald C. Spiggle with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at a meal following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the residence.
