Rebecca Merricks (Becky) Dickerson, 93, of Valley View Retirement Center, Lynchburg, Va., died Monday, January 1, 2018 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Earl Howard (Jimmy) Dickerson, Sr.
Born in Prince Edward County, Va., on September 11, 1924, and raised in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Pency Penick Simpson and George Dovie Merricks. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on numerous committees. Becky attended Phillips Business College and was a retired switchboard operator for Leggett/Belk.
She is survived by two children, Earl H. Dickerson, Jr. and wife, Mary of Appomattox and Amy D. Heim and husband, Tom of Midlothian; five grandchildren, Greer D. Harris and husband, David of Appomattox, Tobin J. Dickerson and wife, Meghan of San Marcos, Calif., Zane H. Dickerson and wife, Beth of Cary, N.C., Kathleen R. Heim and Emily A. Heim both of Midlothian; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 1100 Court Street, Lynchburg, officiated by the Rev. Paul Dakin . The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
A private family burial will be held in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
