Rebecca "Becky" Gunter Blackwell, 47, of Rt. 3 Appomattox, died Sunday evening at her residence. She was the wife of Tommy Blackwell.
Born in Lynchburg, November 25, 1957, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mitchell Gunter, Sr. of Appomattox. Becky was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a 1976 graduate of Appomattox County High School and a substitute teacher. She was very active in the American Cancer Society and the Appomattox school system. For several years she served as chairperson of the After Prom Party Committee.
In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by two sons, Christopher Shelton of Lynchburg and Morgan Blackwell of Appomattox; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Daniel Swain of Danville and Cassandra and Steve Peacock of Pamplin; a grandson, Will Peacock of Pamplin, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Paul Smith of New Canton, Donna and Albert Branham of Rustburg, and Kimberly and Ronnie Scruggs of Buckingham and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Mitchell "Jasper" Gunter, Jr. and a sister, Constance Hope Gunter.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jennings B. Duncan, III. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Ronnie Scruggs.
