Rev. Raymond Odell Coggins, 90, of Appomattox went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2026. He was the husband of Ruby Louise Nance Coggins.
Born on September 21, 1935, in Thomasville, NC, he was the son of the late Frank Coggins and Edna Leonard Coggins. He was a lifelong pastor and preached the gospel for over 60 years pastoring Walter’s Grove Baptist Church and Hillside Park Baptist Church in North Carolina. In 1977 he started at Mineral Springs Baptist Church and Spears Mountain Baptist Church in Virginia, until he retired in 2020. He also worked for Mobile Chemical, Thomasville Furniture, and Armstong Furniture.
He is survived by four children, Timothy Coggins and Rosibel of Ocala, FL, Jan Dunn and David of Scottsburg, Kimberly Bryant and Tommy of Appomattox, and Lori Rogers and J. C. of Appomattox; grandchildren, Sasha Coggins, Abby Jenee Dunn, Joshua Bryant, Jacob Bryant and Ann, Jarron Bryant and Amber, Jake Rogers and Greta, Jessie Rogers, and Jamie Rogers; and great grandchildren, Linden, Gareth, J. R. and Nico.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Leroy Coggins and Doris Meredith.
A funeral service will be held 2pm, Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church, Gladstone, VA with Rev. Dr. Rusty Small and Rev. Sonny Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
