Appomattox: Raymond Allen Noble, 77, of Cub Creek Rd., died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Janet H. Noble for 56 years.
Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, May 31, 1930, he was a son of the late Elmer G. and Mae Ogert Noble. Ray served in the U. S. Navy from 1949-1951, was a member of Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department from 1949 – 1968, and was a partner in a Pontiac Agency from 1951-1960. From 1960-1968 he managed Elwal Pines Inn and Restaurant, then in 1968 he and Janet moved to Appomattox where they owned and managed Traveller's Inn Motel until their retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Appomattox Rescue Squad from 1969 – 1987 and for many years served as Captain of the squad. Ray served as a member of the Appomattox Town Council and attended Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Thom Noble and his wife, Linda of Rustburg, Sue Woodroof of Winston-Salem, NC, Bill Noble and his wife, Pat of Oak Ridge, NC, and Jill Blouch and her husband, Greg of Richmond; nine grandchildren, Alisa Blankenship, Tanya Mitchell, J. J. Foster, Scott Noble, Andrew Noble, Greg Noble, Megan Blouch, Lauren Blouch and Brent Woodroof; four great grandchildren and his step-mother, Alyce Noble of Williamstown, MA.
He was preceded by a grandson, Eric Noble.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2007 in Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Johnson and the Rev. Henry Riley.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Friday from 7-8:30 p.m and other times at the residence.
