Raymond Lyle Harris, 86, of VA Beach died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on Aug 19th 2010, in Virginia Beach General Hospital from complications of dementia.

Born October 16, 1923, in Appomattox County, VA, he was a son of the late John Daniel Harris, Sr. and Elsie Baber Harris. He was also predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Doris Cawthorne Harris; a son, Michael C. Harris and his wife Gail of Kitty Hawk, NC; a daughter, Nancy J. Hobson of VA Beach; three grandchildren, Jessica A. Folan and her husband Sean of Moyock, NC, Paul H. Hobson of Fairfax, VA and Sarah-Jane Hobson of VA Beach; two great-grandchildren, Michael Paul Gill-Hobson and Chloe Ann Folan; a brother, Daniel Harris of Suffolk, VA; a sister, Shirley Harris O'Brien of Appomattox, VA and many nephews and nieces.

Raymond was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a past member of American Legion Post #35, Princess Anne Lodge #25 A.F. & A.M., Khedive Shrine Temple, and Norfolk Court #75 Royal Order of Jesters. He also was a past member of the Retail Alliance.

The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff of VA Beach General Hospital for all of their support in the past week.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Monday Aug 23, 2010, in New Hope Baptist Church, Appomattox with burial following in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Robinson Funeral Home, 667 Court Street, Appomattox, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be made to the Khedive Shrine Temple Transportation Fund, 645 Woodlake Dr; Chesapeake, VA 23320.
