Randall Watts (Papa Randy) Phelps, Sr., 69, of Oakville Road, Gladstone, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia Lucado Phelps for 50 years.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., on January 31, 1947, he was a son of the late Della Lee Robertson and Carlyle Thomas Phelps. He was a lifetime member of Maple Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated deacon for over 30 years. A welder by trade, Randy started out at Truckbody Corporation in his late teens, and retired from Alliance Inc. in 2007. Prior to working for Alliance, he was a dedicated employee of Simplimatic Engineering for over 31 years, until they went out of business in 2007.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Belinda Martin and Roger Wright of Amherst, Bud Moses and wife, Tonya of Gretna, Randy Phelps, Jr. of Gladstone, and T. M. Phelps and wife, Michelle of Appomattox; seven grandchildren, Brandy Kinne and husband, Jerry, Allen Nash, Jr. and wife, Glenna all of Appomattox, Tristan Phelps of Gladstone, Miranda Phelps, Miller Phelps, both of Appomattox, and Kenny and Tiffany Sanders of Gretna; nine great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Vanessa, and Kristina Kinne, Kendall, Lane, and Anna Nash, Samantha King, Whitney and Savannah Burley; three great-great grandchildren, Alaynia Deaner, Skylar and Damien Wade; a former son-in-law, who was as close as a son, Joe Martin of Nelson; a brother, Richard Phelps, Sr. and wife, Dorothy of Gladstone; four sisters, Marion Horsley of Appomattox, Joyce Taylor of Concord, Cora Mae Page and husband, Clyde, and Clara "(Dot) Ferguson all of Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle Phelps and three beloved nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Robinson Funeral Home by Pastor Paul Kvasnicka. Burial will follow in the Phelps Family Cemetery, Oakville Road, Gladstone. It was Randy's wish that everyone dress in casual attire for his services.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and other times at the residence.
