Ralph Dean Carter, Sr., 82, of Morning Star Road, died September 25, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Stella Rosser Carter.
Born in Vera, Va., on September 15, 1935, he was a son of the late Mary Lake Galliher and Aubrey Randolph Carter. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and the Cross Country Hunting Club. Ralph retired from Gould National Battery after 25 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Stella he is survived by four sons, Ralph D. Carter, Jr. and wife, Kellie T. of Pamplin, Marcus S. Carter and wife, Christie M. of Spout Spring, James Dean Cornett and wife, Hue of Austin, Texas, and Lawrence "Larry" S. Cornett of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Cynthia C. Hill and husband, Robert of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Randolph H. Carter of Madison Heights; a sister, Ida Lois Hudson and husband, Homer of Lynchburg; 10 grandchildren, Kayla Carter, Justin Carter, Devin Carter, Cassidy Carter, Don Cornett, Linda Rangel, Kathy Tran, Jaclin Tran, Adam Hill, and Emily Hill; and a devoted nephew, Wesley Baxter Baldwin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Carter and James Carter and a sister, Iris C. Cumbie.
The family would like to thank Diann Pickett and the Centra Hospice team for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Evergreen United Methodist Church by the Rev. Herndon Jeffreys. The family will receive friends at the residence.
