Obituary

Richard Houston (Hugh) Tanner, 83, of Stonewall Rd., Concord, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at his residence surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Shirley Viar Tanner.

Born in Appomattox County, VA, on August 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Hula Cunningham and Thomas Houston Tanner. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Hugh was the owner and operator of Tanner's Repair Shop, a former deputy for the Appomattox Sheriff's Office, a former director for the Concord Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Alumni Association of the F. F. A.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Steven (Steve) Tanner and wife, Patricia and Gary Wayne Tanner and wife, Angela; a brother, Frank Calvin Tanner and wife, Stella all of Concord; four grandchildren, Gina T. Wright and husband, Chris; Katie T. Moffitt and husband, Matt; Corie T. Pugh and husband, Kirk; and Ashley Wright; three great-grandchildren, Jaden Robertson, Tye Robertson, and Kierstin Alkire.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 5, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2013, at Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Walker with burial following in the church cemetery.
