Phyllis Branch Phelps Woody, 80, of Appomattox, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022, at Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of James E. Woody.
Born September 22, 1941, she was the daughter of the late George A. Branch and Mabel Woody. Phyllis worked for the Appomattox County Primary School in the cafeteria until she retired.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Vanessa Mettler and husband, Leon, Wanda Jobe and husband, John of Appomattox and Tony Phelps and wife, Laurie of Forest; four grandchildren, Adam Clifton and fiancé Hilary Wingfield, Jake Jobe and wife, Holly, Zach Jobe and wife, Aimee, and Mikayla Phelps; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Taytum, Jensen and Luke Jobe.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Phelps; two brothers, Allen Branch and Tommy Branch; and a granddaughter, Destini Phelps.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Liberty Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Childress officiating.
The family will receive friends at the homes of James Woody and Wanda Jobe.
The family would like to express a thank you to the staff at AHRC and a special thanks to Diann Pickett, Sandra Cash, Courtney, Sara and Sabrina for their love and care of Mrs. Woody.
