Phyllis Almond McCormick, 71, of Appomattox, died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, in Southside Community Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leonard Allen McCormick Sr.
Born in Appomattox, Va., on August 25, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Mary Odelle Ferguson and Joseph Pearlman Almond. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and worked for Amelia Dress Company and Courtland Manufacturing.
She is survived by a son, Leonard A. McCormick Jr. and wife, Jill of Appomattox; a daughter, Cheryl M. Marshall and husband, Larry of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Lindsay McCormick, Blair McClure and husband, Harper, Sarah Napier and husband, James, and Jason Haley; a great-grandson, Tristan McClure; a sister, Nathalie Ripley and husband, Gordon of Buckingham; and a brother, L. W. (Buck) Almond of Evington.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 in Liberty Cemetery by the Rev. Earnie Lucas. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of her son, 114 Linden Street, Appomattox.
