Phyllis Joy Franklin, 82, of Concord, died on Friday, November 25, 2011. She was the wife of Thomas M. Franklin, Sr. Born November 26, 1928 in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Earl Scott Joy and Josephine Elder Joy.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by two step-daughters, Kaye Staton and husband, Jack of Lynchburg and Donna Franklin of Concord; one step-son, Tom Franklin and wife, Renee of Concord; two sisters, Joselene Carson of Concord and Earlene Butcher and husband, Gale "Butch" of Richlands; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and husband, Ronnie of Appomattox, Mackie Franklin and Miranda Franklin both of Lynchburg; three step-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Wayne Claybrook and wife, Donna and Scott Butcher and wife, Terry; one niece, Kathryn Butcher; two great-nephews, Frank Claybrook and wife, Jennifer and Hunter Claybrook and wife, Jennifer; two great-nieces, Annie Butcher and Ellie Butcher.
Phyllis was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She retired from Virginia Baptist Hospital as a Medical Technologist with thirty-five years of service. She attended Radford College and graduated from East Tennessee State University.
Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church by Pastor Dan Dibble. The family will receive friends at Bethlehem United Methodist Church one hour prior to the funeral and other times at the home of Joselene Carson.
