Phil Hamlin, 85, of South Fork Road, Appomattox, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Betty Culler Hamlin.
Born in Mars Hill, N.C., on January 19, 1933, he was a son of the late Orla English and Alpheus Clyde Hamlin. He was a member Evergreen Baptist Church, a veteran of the US Army. Phil was owner and operator of his own tractor trailer and contracted with Taylor Ramsey.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a sister, Louise Hamlin Crain of Pamplin; four sons, Ralph (Stinky) Vannoy and wife, Martha of Richmond, Malcolm Vannoy and wife, Darlene of Appomattox, Howard Vannoy and wife, Olivia of Mexico, and John Vannoy and wife, Erika of Appomattox; a daughter, Betty Lou and Tim of Appomattox; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by two brothers, Zane Hamlin and Brannon Hamlin.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Evergreen Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Wilson.
