Obituary

Paul Mitchell "Pop" Gunter, 84, of Old Courthouse Road, peacefully entered into the kingdom of Heaven to join his Lord and loved ones on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Pauline Kress Gunter.

Born in Appomattox, June 12, 1932 he was a son of the late Fannie Maude Bryant and Paul Edward Gunter. Paul was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Doe Palace Hunt Club and Mountain View Hunt Club. He was self-employed as a contractor/painter. Paul served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his daughters, Kim Scruggs and husband, Ronnie of Dillwyn, Donna Branham and husband, Albert of Rustburg and Brenda Smith and husband, Paul of New Canton; one sister, Joyce Loveday and husband, W.W. of Appomattox; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a devoted granddaughter, Ashley Heinrichs; a special great-grandson, "Jase" Heinrichs; son-in-law, Tommy Blackwell of Gladys; sister-in-law, Virginia Gunter of Farmville; special ladies, April Torrence and Sherry Armstrong; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Mitchell "Jasper" Gunter; two daughters, Constance Hope Gunter and Rebecca "Becky" G. Blackwell; one sister, Hilda Marie Gunter; one brother, Roy E. Gunter; and a grandson, Bo Scruggs.

A funeral service will be held 2pm., Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Falwell and Buck Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ronnie and Kim Scruggs, 3876 Mt. Rush Hwy., Dillwyn, VA.

The family wishes to give special appreciations to "his nurse" Diann Pickett.
