Obituary

Patricia Molly Dunevant, 91, of Appomattox, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Warren Dunevant.

Born in Liverpool, England, on March 8, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Claire Scruggs and Clarence Scruggs. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her two beloved sons, Michael Dunevant and David Dunevant.

In the summer of 1946, Patricia arrived with her mother in the United States after living thru the horrors of World War II. As a child during the bombing of England, her school and home were destroyed, and she sustained a permanent eye injury.  Patricia and her parents made their home in Farmville, Virginia, and there she met her first and only love Warren. They were married in 1950 and enjoyed a beautiful life together for 67 years.

Patricia and Warren relocated to Lynchburg from Farmville in 1963 when Warren was promoted with his company.

As a devoted mother she was always there to support her children. Patricia was a caring grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She loved her many pets whom she considered family. She knew her Lord and Savior and she had a deep faith in God and never spoke unkindly of anyone.  Status and material possessions were never important to her, she was compassionate towards others and always saw the good in everyone.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Jennifer Letterman and husband, Mark of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Mary Earle (Ryan), Mark Dunevant (Somer), Sarah Sanzone (Ross), Brandon Dunevant (Brett), and Gwendolyn King (Zach); six great-grandchildren, Luke, Lacey, Hallie, Shep, Michaela, and Ava; and two daughters-in-law, Kathy D. Carter and Donna Dunevant.

She also leaves to grieve her a cousin, Avril Austin of Kent England, sisters-in-law, Barbara Dunevant Hollister and Annie Mae Dunevant Shows; brother-in-law, Lawrence Hollister; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her family wishes to thank the following for their dedicated loving talented and tireless care: Amanda Lofton, the Nurses and Staff at Appomattox Health and Rehab Center, Centra Health ER , Centra Hospital Lynchburg, Cardiology Associates, Appomattox County Rescue Squad,  and Dr. Thomas P. Eppes who was her primary care physician for four decades.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Dennis Hollingsworth will at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Enon Baptist Church, 8814 Andersonville Road, Dillwyn, VA. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
