Appomattox: Otho Wesley Martin, Jr., 88, of 5682 Oakville Rd., died Tuesday, January 9, 2007, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Hazel Lee Coleman Martin for 66 years.
Otho was a devoted, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A man of great courage and great faith, respected and loved by all who knew him.
Born in Oakville, VA, August 14, 1918, he was a son of the late O. W. Martin, Sr. and Lula Goodman Martin. Otho was a retired salesman of 46 years with Barker-Jennings Hardware Corporation of Lynchburg. He was a member of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church where he served as the Superintendent of Sunday School for 50 years, a member of the Gideons International and a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served as a member of the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors for 24 years. He also served as Treasurer for the Oakville Ruritan Club and was a charter member of the Appomattox Camp #1733 Sons of Confederate Veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Wesley Martin, Sr. (Jimmy) of Murfreesboro, TN and Richard Lee Martin and wife, Barbara of Appomattox; two grandsons, Matthew E. Martin of Memphis, TN and John Richard Martin and wife, Diedra; one granddaughter, Lauralee Martin Mills and husband, Josh all of Appomattox; two great grandchildren, Tyler Wesley Martin and Georgia Arley Mills; a brother, David Lee Martin and wife, Lillian of Concord and sister, Annice Martin Williams of Forest.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, James Wesley Martin, Jr., a brother, Clark Howlette Martin and four sisters, Carrie Emza Moore, Christine M. Moore, Isabelle M. Martin and Ellen M. Martin.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, January 12, 2007 in Mount Comfort United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne, Rev. David Camden, and Rev. A. Randolph Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Thursday from 7-8:30 pm and at other times at the residence.
