Obituary

Reverend Oscar Edward Bryant, age 87, was called to his heavenly reward on Friday, April 21, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Oscar was an ordained minister with the Redemption Ministries Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. His ministerial career included seasons as both a pastor and an evangelist. During his years of pastoral ministry, Bryant served with nine different congregations spanning a period of thirty-seven years. Those that knew Oscar knew he was a fervent student of the Scriptures. He had a special affinity for the book of Revelation which he read regularly and taught on numerous occasions.

Oscar is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ida Hackett Bryant; daughters, Rita Bryant Terry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Janice Bryant Lobb of Phoenix, Arizona; and son, Reverend Garry Edward Bryant of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition, his legacy is carried on by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Oscar is also survived by siblings Naomi Stratton, James Bryant, Landon Bryant and Helen Almond all of Appomattox, Virginia.

Oscar was preceded in death by his father Russell Roy Bryant and his mother Minnie Roberta Burks of Vera, Virginia; brother, Daniel Bryant of Appomattox, Virginia; and sisters, Ruby Bryant of Buckingham, Virginia; Lois Moore of Gladstone, Virginia; and Dorothy Hackett of Dillwyn, Virginia.

The immediate family of Oscar Bryant cordially invites family and friends to a public viewing on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, Virginia. A celebration service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. The internment will follow at Maple Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery in Wingina, Virginia.

Reverend Garry Bryant will officiate the service with assistance from Reverend Bill Terry of Oklahoma City, Reverend Gregory Terry of Greenville, Pennsylvania and Reverend Rickey Hackett of Dillwyn, Virginia. The service will reflect on the life and ministry of a man of God whose impact influenced many individuals encouraging them to follow the call of God on their lives.

Reverend Oscar Edward Bryant will be missed, and never forgotten. His life and legacy will live on in the hearts of many who knew him and were touched by his ministry.
