Orlando Neal Mason, 59, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2011. He was the husband of Vicki Dickerson Mason. Born on October 13, 1952 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Siratirs Jasper Mason and Ruby Esther Pribble Mason.
In addition to his wife, Orlando is survived by one daughter, Heather Marie Mason of Concord; two grandchildren, Anna Grace and Aiden Walker; one son, Orlando Neal Mason II and wife Jacqueline of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Wendell Boyd Mason and wife Violet of Concord; one sister, Donna Mason Schaefer and husband Norm of Charlotte, NC; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his extended family, including the Pribble, Marks, and Bryan families.
In addition to his parents, Orlando was predeceased by one brother, Donnie Lee Mason.
Orlando lived a life devoted to his family as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who also served his community with dignity and compassion. Everyone who knew Orlando can share many stories of his kindness and generosity to those in need, for he was a man who truly embodied the ideals described by Jesus in Matthew 25:34-40: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." … "…whatever you did for the one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and an active member of the Concord Rescue Squad and Fire Department for twenty years. He was the owner and operator of Able Tire in Concord.
Orlando will be greatly missed by many family members, friends, fishing buddies, and customers who will remember him as a man of great strength, dignity, faith, and honor.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Thomas Terrace Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Grooms and the Rev. John Pickett. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, VA.
