Omar Lewis Thompson, known to most as "Billy," 79, of Spout Spring, entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2019. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Nash Thompson for 49 years.

Born on January 16, 1940, in Appomattox, he was the only child of the late Percy Lewis and Elizabeth Robertson Thompson. He was a graduate of Appomattox County High School and Phillips Business College. He was employed by the Appomattox Garment Company, later known as Courtland Manufacturing Inc., for 40 years in management. After retirement, he worked at the Appomattox Post Office for 14 years where he was often found having lengthy conversations with the patrons, carrying packages or just picking up the mail for many who could not because of their age or disability. He never met a stranger and was always there willing to help out with a smile. He was an avid UVA fan, loved watching sports including NASCAR races and his former favorite driver Jeff Gordon, and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed camping with his family for many years at Thousand Trails in Rustburg. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Angela Thompson Sutton and husband, Eric of Charlotte, NC; his son, Rodney Lewis Thompson of Lynchburg; two grandsons, Ryan Christopher Sutton and Reid Bradley Sutton of Charlotte, NC; and a loving mother-in-law, Jean Moore Nash of Appomattox.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 at Liberty Chapel Baptist Church, 4559 Liberty Chapel Road, Appomattox, with Rev. Russell Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
