Oran Berkley Stephens, Jr., 79, of Hixsburg Road, Pamplin, passed on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Berkley is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary W. Ranson Stephens; children, Andrew Berkley Stephens, Cathrine Lorraine Stephens, and Dennis Jason Stephens and fiancée, Tahirah Callham; four grandchildren, Zane Jason Stephens, Gabriel William Stephens, Lydia Nicole Stephens, and London Alexander Rice; two sisters, Janet Cannada Ryan and husband, Kenny, and Polly Cannada Newlin all of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Louhanor Clark and Garnet Cannada and Oran Berkley Stephens, Sr. and Madeline; brother, Glenn Berkley Stephens; nephews, Lee Stephens, David Stephens, Walter Thomas Foster, Jr., Thomas Jason Gilliland, and Michael James Gilliland.

Berkley grew up in Carrboro, N. C and graduated from Chapel Hill High School.  He accepted Christ at the age of 12 at Carrboro Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed the historical teachings of the early Christian church that were introduced to him at Vienna Baptist Church. Berkley was a member of Elon Baptist Church in Pamplin, Va. He believed we serve an awesome God.

He knew a little bit about everything and enjoyed telling stories of his youth to his kids and grandkids. He never missed a daily crossword puzzle and was an avid reader He will be greatly missed.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. David Sexton will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Robinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rocks Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
