Norman Hunter "Jimmy" Mayberry, 72, of Annie Street, Appomattox, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his residence. He was the husband of Carolyn Childers Mayberry for 52 years.
Born in Appomattox County, on June 3, 1942, he was a son of the late Bessie Cyrus and James Hunter Mayberry. He was a member of Grace Hills Baptist Church, retired from the Division of Motor Vehicles with over 30 years of service, and was presently employed by The Farmers Bank of Appomattox. Jimmy was a member of the Appomattox Town Council where he had served for 19 years. He was an avid golfer and one of his greatest joys in life was watching his grandchildren play sports.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Dana Mayberry and Greg and Pam Mayberry; four grandchildren, Patrick, Heather, Chase, and Tate Mayberry; a great-granddaughter, Raegan; two uncles, Clayton Cyrus and Richard Sweeney; an aunt, Mildred C. Mayberry all of Appomattox and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris M. Martin and Phyllis M. Smith.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Grace Hills Baptist Church by the Rev. Adam Tyler and the Rev. Wes Williams. Burial will follow in Liberty Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
