Neftali Garcia, Sr., 89, of Watt Abbitt Rd., Appomattox, died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Maria Morales Garcia.
Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, on September 17, 1920, he was a son of the late Juan Garcia Rivera and Francisca Marchant. Neftali was a WWII Army veteran, a retired NY State plumber, a member of American Legion Post #104, and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Neftali and Dorothy Garcia, Jr. of Appomattox and Charles and Tamara Garcia of Eden, NC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen Anna and Kenneth Laukas of Oak Forest, Illinois and Naomi and Joseph Cambria of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother and sister-in-law, Sigfredo and Hilda Garcia of Puerto Rico; 10 grandchildren, Debbie, Mindy, Rebecca, Charlie, Missy, Kenny, Renee, Christine, Ashley, and Jessica and 16 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Aaron, Olivia, Katie, Christian, Lillie, Alex, Isaac, Anneliese, Julia, Jeremy, Leah, Colby, Nick, Dylan, and Will.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Garcia.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church by Father Jim Gallagher. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
