Nancy Maxey Tabor, 89, of Concord went to be with her Lord, on Tuesday evening, August 15, 2017. In 1948, she became the devoted wife of J. D. Tabor, who preceded her in death in 2004.

Born on December 31, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Lucy Monroe and David Darnell Maxey. Raised at Three Forks, in Rustburg, she was a graduate of Rustburg High School. She was a member of Early's Chapel United Methodist Church. Nancy worked in banking and bookkeeping most of her career. She and J. D. loved to travel; visiting all 50 states and 13 foreign countries. She gave to numerous charities and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Nancy is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Tabor Schmidt and husband, Dennis of Concord; a son, Robin D. Tabor of Richmond; two grandsons, Tyler Schmidt of Austin, Texas and Chase Schmidt and his wife, Mackayla of Rustburg; a step-granddaughter, Stephanie Windhorst and husband, Ryan; two step-great-grandsons, Jackson and Maddox all of Decatur, Ill.; a special niece, Ivy G. Lewis and her husband, Monte and their daughter, Rebecca of N. Mankato, Minn.; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonny Lou Tabor Guill; two brothers, Monroe Maxey and Robert E. Maxey, Sr.; and a sister, Mary Maxey Tanner.

The family would like to give special recognition to her friend, Sharon M. Speas and niece, Wanda Tabor Key, for their caring devotion and love.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Early's Chapel United Methodist Church officiated by Phillip Vaughan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
