Myrtle Virginia Wolff, 88, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Avante Nursing Home of Roanoke. She was the wife of the late Joseph James Wolff, who was a POW during WW II while serving in the US Army. She was affectionately known as "Sister" in Virginia or "Mama Wolff" in New York.
Born in Appomattox County, Va., on February 15, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Jessalyn Mae Johnson Tinnell Simpson and the late Sidney Tinnell. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed watching TV, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Harvey Wolff of Ashburn, Va. and David Lee Tinnell of Powhatan, Va.; three sisters, Alice Juanita Adams of Hague, Va., Joyce Ann Johnson and her husband, Marvin of Appomattox, and Billie Jane Watson and her husband, Lewis of Lignum, Va.; and a brother, William Harvey Simpson and his wife, Ethel of Pamplin.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sidney Tinnell, Jr. and Norman Eugene Tinnell; a sister, Dorothy Louise Farrell and her step-father, Harvey Louis Simpson.
Funeral services will 7 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, in Robinson Funeral Home followed by a visitation until 8:30 p.m.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., on Thursday, April 30, 2015 in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y.
