Obituary

Milton Layfayette "Buddy" Greene, 79, of Spout Spring passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy Jordan Greene for 37 years.

Born on August 1, 1944, in Lenoir, NC, he was the son of the late Christie Layfayette Greene and Ruby Baker Greene. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. Buddy served his country in South Korea as a member of the United States Army as a missile technician. Buddy was a lifetime member of the Appomattox Fire Department where he served for 44 years and six months. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104. Buddy worked with T.E. Brown construction, and Thomasville manufacturing for over 35 years. He also worked with the Appomattox Public School System as a master electrician and plumber.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepson, Johnny Bass and wife, Devera of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Randal Bass, Johnny Lee Bass, Jr. and wife, Kaitlin, Ciera Bass, Kelsie Evans and husband, Daniel; three great-grandchildren, Amir Watts, Grayson Kress, and Everley Bass; four sisters, Audrey Ragland of Spout Spring, Evelyn Garrett and husband, Robert of Appomattox, Melanie Chambers of Spout Spring, and Thresea Lewis and husband, Jeff of Concord; brother-in-law, Johnnie Jordan and fiancée, Brenda Hash; and numerous nieces and nephews including two special nephews, Eddie Ragland and Jeff Garrett.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Tina Marie Bass; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Ragland, and Hal Chambers; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Hamilton.

A funeral service will be held 12 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Glory Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard and honors by the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence on Monday after 12 pm.
