Obituary

Mildred Ponton Hubbard, 87, of Woodland Rd., Appomattox, died Wednesday morning, October 9, 2013 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late William Christopher (Billy) Hubbard, Sr.

Mildred was born September 25, 1926 in Roseland, a daughter of the late Ruby Gowan and Stephen Withers Ponton. She was a substitute teacher in the Appomattox County School System for many years and a member of Liberty Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Flower Committee.

She is survived by her children, Donna H. Ruland and husband, Dan of Casper, Wyoming; William C. Hubbard, Jr., Robert C. Hubbard, III and his wife, Anita of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Robert C. Hubbard, IV, Ashleigh M. Hubbard, William C. Hubbard, III and Eric Hubbard; a sister, Shirley P. White and her husband, Wilson of Roseland; six brothers, Albert L. Ponton and his wife, Marie; Homer G. Ponton and his wife, Frances all of Lovingston; Leo F. Ponton and his wife, Frances of Charlottesville; Douglas Ponton and his wife, Imogene of Nellysford; Miller Ponton and his wife, Sylvia of Stuarts Draft and Alvin Ponton of Roseland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie W. Ponton, Lawrence C. Ponton and Julian P. Ponton.

Funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Liberty Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Rusty Small. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. The family will visit with family and friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 4:00 p.m.
