Obituary

Mickie Thompson, 91, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Heritage Green. He was the loving husband of Dolores Tatum Thompson for 66 years.

Born in Campbell County, June 15, 1926, he was a son of the late Elma Moore and Charles Edward Thompson. Mike was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Chestnut Mountain Hunt Club. He served his country during WWII, and retired after 20 years from Newport News Shipyard, and later worked at Thompson Trucking. Mikes greatest joy was hunting and running dogs with his son-in-law, grandsons, and his great-grandson, Christian.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Hayes and husband, Jimmy; three grandchildren, Jimmy Hayes Jr., and wife, Barbie, Michael Hayes and wife, Jennifer and Ashley Cobb and husband, Jacob; one sister-in-law, Sallie Thompson; six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Christian, Jack, Wyatt, Casey and Marley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Edward Thompson, III; one sister, Venezuela Thompson McKinney; and four brothers, Vance, Shorty, James and Dick.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
