Michael Lynn "Hippi" Childress, 52, of Broadway Ave., Bedford died Sunday, December 14, 2014 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Rene L. Childress.
Born in Lynchburg, on August 28, 1962, he was the son of Patricia Childress Flynn of Keysville. Hippi was employed by Sentry Equipment Erectors and a US Marine. He was a member of the Iron Horse Calvary ABATE, the US Military Vets Motorcycle Club, and the Mountain Thunder/Bent Mountain Chapter ABATE of Virginia.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by five children, Kimberly Childress of Buckingham, Ashley Marker and husband, Blayne of Md., Brooklyn Childress of Bedford, Specialist Perry Putnam of Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Carolyn Putnam of Roanoke; two brothers, Tommy Dalton and wife, Melanie of Lynchburg and Fred Flynn, Jr. of Keysville; a sister, Melinda Shores of Drakes Branch; two aunts, Nancy C. Harris and Lois C. Goin, an uncle, Gene Childress; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five uncles, Melvin Childress, Leonard "Bruce" Marshall, Jimmy Smith, Walter "Dick" Goin and Frank Harris and two aunts, Alice Jean Childress and Mildred Smith.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home by Pastor David Pruitt. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, from 2 to 4:00 p.m.
