Mary Thomas Turner, 76, of Lynchburg, Va., departed this life Thursday December 31, 2015. Born on September 2, 1939, Mary was a daughter of Edward Lee Thomas, Sr., and Della Carter Thomas.

Mary was a Registered Nurse, working the majority of her career in long-term care.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus H. Turner; her parents; two brothers, Junior and Bobby; and one sister, Maxine.

She is survived by her son Richard E. Turner of Lynchburg; her daughter, Rebecca T. Gilbert and her husband, Michael of Charlottesville; three cherished grandsons, Joshua M. Gilbert and his wife Edie, Jeremy N. Gilbert and his wife Taryn, and Hunter B. Gilbert; a brother-in-law, Gene Bryant of Appomattox; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, January 4, 2016 in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Jack Davis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
