Mary Anthony Rice Hamlett, 83, of Appomattox passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Southside Community Hospital. She was twice widowed; her first husband the late Andrew Lewis Rice and her second husband the late Edward Daniel Hamlett, Sr.

Born on December 25, 1940, in Westmoreland County, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Anthony and Lula Jenkins Anthony. Mary worked in numerous places in her lifetime including Thomasville Furniture, Garment Factory at Pamplin, Pamplin Exxon, Quik-E, and Wilbun's. She loved people, flowers, and vegetable gardens.

She is survived by five children, Brenda R. Bates and Thomas of Appomattox, Charles E. Rice of Farmville, Diane H. Brinkley of Pamplin, E. "Danny" Hamlett and Linda, and Pam H. McCauley and Mike all of Richmond; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Margaret Ratcliff, Ruth M. Thomas, and Lois Parr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Hoke Andrew "Andy" Rice.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, April 8, 2024, at Pamplin Community Cemetery with Pastor Kim Jeffreys officiating.
