Mary Catherine Mitchell Whitehead, 67, of Appomattox, died Friday, April 22, 2011, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in Appomattox County, on March 17, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Curtis Lewis Mitchell and Willie Woodford Jones Mitchell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Maymond Mitchell
Mary Cat is survived by four children, Jay Whitehead and wife Edna, Robin Mayberry and husband Russell, Cindy Miller and husband Travis, all of Appomattox and Kelly McConnell of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Al Mayberry, Hunter Miller, Breanne McConnell, Haley Miller, Eric Johnson, and Kelly Johnson; her sister, Shirley Childress Tomlin; three brothers, Charlie, Doug, and Mike Mitchell; her sister-in-law, Sandra Mitchell; the father of her children, James C. Whitehead, Sr. and cherished friends.
The family request that memorials be made to the ASPCA-Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
A private service will be held for the family.
