Mary Alice Cheatham Hancock, 85, of Appomattox, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

She was born on March 23, 1933 to the late Samuel B. Cheatham and Katie Camden Cheatham. Mary graduated from Appomattox County High School and Phillips Business College. She retired from B&W and worked at Liberty Baptist Church as a secretary for many years. Mary loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church. Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her son, Kent Hancock and wife Teresa of Appomattox, two grandchildren, James Hancock and wife Carrie of Spout Spring, and Nichole Hancock Yeatts and husband Tim of Forest and four great-grandchildren, Ryder, Blakeleigh, Jamie and Shelby. She is also survived by a sister, Linda Cheatham Howard of Austin, Texas and sister-in-law Clydie Cheatham of Appomattox as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, George M. Cheatham.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2018 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1709 Church Street, Appomattox with the Rev. Dr. Rusty Small officiating. Burial will follow in Reedy Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 7 until to 8:30 p.m. The family will receive friends other times at the residence of Kent and Teresa Hancock.

In lieu of flowers, Mary requested donations be made to the Liberty to Minister More Fund c/o Liberty Baptist Church, P.O. Box 485, Appomattox, Virginia 24522.
