Obituary

Marvin Arnold Caldwell, Sr., 71, of Appomattox, died Sunday, August 14, 2016, at his residence.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on September 23, 1944, he was a son of the late Sara Howerton and Hubert Hunter Caldwell, Sr. He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS UVALDE and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. In 1997 he retired from B & W after 34 years of service.

He is survived by three children, Elizabeth Caldwell Putnam, Marvin A. (Sonny) Caldwell, Jr. both of Appomattox ,and Rebecca Caldwell Hamlett and husband, Steve of Spout Spring; eight grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Durocher and her husband, Dave, Tabitha Caldwell Coffman and her husband, Robbie, Craig Hunter Caldwell, Adam Caldwell Hamlett, Andrew Christian Hamlett, Sara Elizabeth Putnam, Anna Grace Putnam, and Olivia Katherine Hamlett; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward L. Caldwell of Huntsville, Ala. and Fred M. Caldwell of Appomattox; two sisters, Edith C. Harris of Appomattox and Doris C. Martin of Richmond; beloved neighbors, Katherine Poole and family and Bobby Roach and family; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, H. H. "Red" Caldwell, Jr.

A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, August 20 2016, at his residence by the Rev. Wayne Lanham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Appomattox County Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA 24522.
