Obituary

Appomattox: Martin Luther Webb, 88, of 219 South Church Street, died Monday, May 16, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Hawkins Webb.
Martin was born April 11, 1917, in Appomattox County. He was the son of the late John William Webb and Lelia Ferguson Webb.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Martin Webb and Sheila F.
Webb of Appomattox, and two granddaughters, Kathleen R. Webb of Mission, Texas and Mallory J. Webb of Appomattox.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Berta Webb, Thelma Webb Martin, and Carrie Webb Wright, and five brothers, J. Walker Webb, Richard M. Webb, Henry D. Webb, W. Archer Webb, and Robert E. Webb.
Martin was the retired President of Webb's Tire Company, Inc., which he founded in 1948. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Active in community life, Martin was a charter member of Falling River Country Club, member of American Legion Post 104 for 57 years, member of Appomattox Lion's Club for 56 years, former member of Appomattox Town Council, served on the Central Fidelity Bank Advisory Board in Appomattox, and past Director of the Virginia Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. Martin was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he previously served as Trustee and member of the Administrative Board.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Johnson, with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 9. Appomattox, VA 24522.
