Mark Hipps, 78, of Pamplin, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Mark and his beloved wife, Mildred Frances Tolley Hipps, were married for 51 years.
Born April 4, 1931,in Greenville, Tenn., he was a son of the late Grover S. and Emma Coates Hipps. Mark was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Babcock and Wilcox. He was a member Piney Ridge United Methodist Church where he was a former Superintendent of Sunday School and a former member of the choir. Mark enjoyed playing golf and was a wonderful person, always willing to help anyone.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall Wayne andTess Hipps, Gregory Mark and Elizabeth Hipps, Todd Franklin and Jennifer Hipps all of Richmond; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Dale and Kenneth Kress of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Kendall, Klayton, and Katelyn Kress, Lukin Hipps, and Gibson Ray Hipps; a great granddaughter, Kaylee Clark; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert S. and Vevil Hipps of Greenville, Tenn. and Luke and Gertrude Hipps of Courtland, Ill.; three sisters, May Belle McCarty of Sheffield Lakes, Ohio, Ollie Belle Vaughan of Brentwood, Tenn., and Ruth (Hannah) Arrington of Tappahannock; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Joyce, Margery, and Lois Hipps; a good friend, Jean Kress; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Pee-Wee.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Aden Dwight, Bryant, and Paul Hipps.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church by Pastor Johnny Covington with burial following in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
