Mark Edward Drinkard

Mark Edward Drinkard, 61, of Appomattox, VA, passed on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at his home. Born in Albuquerque, NM, on June 2, 1965, he was the son of Nell Daley and Tommy Scott Drinkard of Appomattox.

He is also survived by two sons, Heath Drinkard and Braden Drinkard; two brothers, Scott Drinkard and Jeff Drinkard and wife, Rebecca; two nieces, Emma and Katie; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mark was a devoted father whose greatest joy in life was his boys. They were the center of his world, and he loved them with all his heart. He was their biggest supporter and proudest fan, always encouraging them, celebrating their achievements, and reminding them how deeply they were loved. Above all, he loved talking with his boys, music and singing, and spending time on the river.

His devotion to his sons could be seen in his support of them in the sports they enjoyed through his teaching. He led Braden to finding his passion in golf, and Heath to finding his passion in volleyball; which coaligned with his involvement with the Appomattox County High School volleyball team.

Volleyball was far more than a sport to him—it was a lifelong passion and a true calling. As both an accomplished player and respected coach, he devoted countless hours to the game he loved. Throughout his coaching career, he led his teams to numerous district and regional championships, ultimately achieving the pinnacle of success with a state championship. Yet, while the victories and titles were meaningful, they never defined him. His greatest accomplishments were the lives he touched, the confidence he inspired, and the lasting relationships he built along the way.

His volleyball girls were more than athletes to him - they were family. He believed in each of them, challenged them to reach their fullest potential, and celebrated their successes both on and off the court. His unwavering support, genuine care, and passion for the game left an enduring impact on everyone fortunate enough to play for him. Long after the final match, the lessons he taught about teamwork, perseverance, integrity, and believing in yourself continued to guide and inspire those whose lives he influenced.

His legacy lives on in the hearts of his sons, the countless athletes he coached, the friends he treasured, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered not only as a championship coach, but as an extraordinary father, mentor, and friend—a man of unwavering love, quiet strength, and remarkable generosity whose influence will continue to inspire generations to come.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Trinity Methodist Church, with a visitation to follow. That evening at 7 p.m. there will also be a service celebrating the life of Mark held in the Appomattox County High School Gymnasium.
