Obituary

Marjorie Susan Hughes Evans, 93, of Lynchburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at The Summit. She was the wife of the late Otis Ray Evans.

Born in Rockingham County, N.C., on October 14, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John Tunstall Hughes and Nannie Sue Dix Hughes. Mrs. Evans was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, the Senior Saints of Thomas Terrace Baptist, and the Senior Citizens of Campbell County.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Sue Evans Tate of Lynchburg and Donna Handy and husband, Coy; a son, Ronald Ray Evans and wife, Shelby all of Ruffin, N. C.; four grandchildren, Randall, Scott, Jennifer, and Brandi; seven great grandchildren, Rodney Jr., David, Jonathan, Trent, Cassie, Amanda, and Levi, and one great-great granddaughter, Alexis.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Roger, Charles, Rudy, and Richard Hughes; two sisters, Virginia Hendricks and Marion Giles; and a grandson, Rodney Sr.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in Thomas Terrace Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Grooms. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, in Mayfield Missionary Baptist Cemetery, Mayfield, N.C. The family will receive friends in Mayfield Missionary Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.
